Hugh Herman, one of the founding partners who has been practicing public accounting for over 30 years brings a diverse array of experience to the table.
Not only does Hugh do regular financial statement and corporate tax compliance work, but he also specializes in structuring mergers, acquisitions and divestitures of businesses, structuring the separation of business owners and professionals in partnerships, mediation and negotiation of business arrangements, tax and estate planning for professionals and very high net worth individuals and reorganization of businesses and professional partnerships. While he has a diverse clientele ranging from owner-managers to large financial service organizations, transport and construction organizations, and he has a sizeable following of health professionals with various specialities.
Hugh enjoys solving particularly challenging puzzles, developing alternative "safe harbour" solutions to problems and strategizing outcomes while being keenly cognizant of the upside and downside risks of the situation.
He is the type of practitioner that clearly understands the underlying business realities of a transaction in order to effectively help the client achieve their objectives rather than only being able to advise the client on the negative consequences of a transaction. Not being a "back room" type of person, he enjoys regularly putting on seminars dealing with various topics on taxation for banks and financial planners. As well, he advises a number of local accounting and law firms in areas dealing with the above specialities.
Hugh has a reputation for quickly developing highly creative and sometimes quite novel practical solutions to problems. He focuses on clients‘ understanding and comfort with the solution to such problem in conjunction with his superb service delivery and extreme personability. He truly enjoys "keeping in touch with" and responding to clients‘ questions throughout the year at no charge which gives the clients the comfort to stay connected to Hugh as the primary "go to" person with their business issues.
Hugh graduated from University of Toronto with a Bachelors of Science. He founded Hennick Herman, LLP in 2003. He is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and the Canadian Tax Foundation.
Hugh enjoys spending time with his three children and several grandchildren, vacationing in his Florida home, and is a connoisseur of fine foods.
